I’ve always admired the work of talented Tennessee photographer Tec Petaja, but haven’t had a chance to post any of his work on the blog yet. While perusing the backlog of my Google Reader on Monday I came across this stunning Tennessee wedding and couldn’t resist saving the files for a post. The wedding took place in the bride’s parents’ backyard, which is simply breathtaking. Weddings like these truly make the case for having your ceremony and reception at home, and make me wish I had such a lovely backyard!
What I, being a fashionphile, love most about these photos is the bride’s perfectly pulled together look. From her natural blushing bride makeup to the carefully coiffed updo that looks loose and natural to the stunning empire waist silk tulle dress, and finally that amazing necklace. Everything just goes so well together, and when paired creates this effortlessly chic look that is greater than the sum of its parts.

A great way for style savvy brides to set their wedding day look apart is to go bold. Choose one element of your wedding day look that really makes a statement, and go for it. Some wedding gowns have a built-in statement that is inherent in the design – a one-shoulder strap covered in layers of chiffon flowers, a dramatic, architectural side bow, or a daringly low back.
But picking a knockout statement gown isn’t the only way to be a bold bride. The most simple wedding dress can serve as the perfect backdrop to a fantastic layered necklace, stunning chandelier earrings or an oversized hair piece. Even bold red (or candy pink!) lips and a dramatic 1940s lined eyelid can take a wedding day look to a whole new level. Short dress brides can up the ante on their wedding day look by choosing out of this world heels – Louboutins or otherwise, if they have ruffles, feathers or a bold hue they will definitely make a style statement.
Though I can go on and on about ways to make a wedding day fashion statement, the most important piece of advice is to choose something that really speaks to you and brings attention to a great asset. In the fabulous photo above by photographer extraordinaire Jasmine Star, the bride (pseudo-bride, since it was a photography workshop and the couple was already married, ha) went bold with a fantastical bridal hat / headpiece. It’s definitely an over the top couture look, but she rocks it. And, it brings attention right to her gorgeous eyes. A style statement success, if I do say so myself.
P.S. If you love the look, see more pics from the workshop here on Jasmine’s blog.
